Green green green!

That was the theme of the Shamrock 5k fun run in phoenix arizona on Saturday march 15th at reach sports 11.

We had never been here before. I almost gave up before we got there due to the highway closures. We had to take a detour and the gps in the car was not co-operating with us. Plus the detour signs were knocked down due to wind that day.Our 25 minute trip took us more like an hour. Thank goodness we always leave extra early.

The complex was nice looking sports field for soccer and baseball games. Green grass!! Lots of people were wearing their shamrock run tech t-shirts. Lots of bright socks, ribbons and hats. I only saw one other person with a beautiful green tutu. It was way tooooooo windy to rock it out. I gave her kuddos after the fact.

We were about 10 mins behind with start time. The race was more trail like. No track, no pavement. We ran on a dirt path. There were a few small dips in the dirt.  When the wind picked up you had to be careful of the dust going in your eyes. Im glad i had my sunglasses on.

I had picked out a fellow runner as a pacer. He was doing about a 10 min mile pace. I kept up with him for about a mile of the race. We ran side by side in silence, though more can be said in silence then with words.

I finished that race in 34:01
overall 109 out of 200
gender 47 out of 112
category 13th out of 32 (ages 30-39)
pace 10:58 minute per mile

I never make any good faces for pictures though. Hubby always takes some though never flattering to me.

And then there was beer! Had I liked beer I would have drank it. I gave it to hubby. The fact that we got free beer was pretty cool.

Of course I got put on the spot by being pointed out over the pa system we have some international runners. Gotta love him for it.

Over all it was a fun race. Next year I would like to do the kiss me I'm irish at westgate. They had better t-shirts!
